IAP 16 ~ Imogen Mansfield

Important artist Imogen Mansfield says “here is my work, it is about Tenderness”
— Imogen Mansfield

A selection of images taken in tenderness. Analog portraits of the people in my life, close and far, with whom I have shared such quiet, delicate moments. Fleeting memories that belong only to us, as a hazy dream of friendship and connection and joy. These are the people that have given me hope, allowed me to be still, to listen to the sound of my breath, and to the rhythm of nature. They have taught me to be tender.

I want to make delicate choices. To be wrapped up in the vitality of the great artists and lovers and philosophers. I live for the visceral, the physical, the senses.

The sound of another’s breath rising and falling beside me, the touch of their fingertips lightly tracing my skin. Days can pass like this as if within a beautiful dream. Enveloped in quietness, simplicity, ruffled hair, awkward limbs and wide eyes.

These are the ordinary moments that are lived so presently, so subtly. It is not the celebrity persona of the actor that we crave, but rather the nuanced story of which they portray, of slow-paced tender moments, of intellectuality and connection. Of youthful naivety and of their messy open hearts.

I find myself lying on top of my covers, waking up from a strange world, still wearing my old jeans. A record is spinning silently across the room, the music must have stopped a while ago. The gentle awareness of my curls draping over my bare shoulders. The goosebumps on my arms as I stretch them overhead. This is simply the dream of the days that pass.
